About Us

Randy & Kim HeadshotThanksgiving of 2009, we (Kim) woke up one morning and had this crazy idea to leave our native homeland of Denver, Colorado and move to Costa Rica for a year.  We knew little about Costa Rica, but it sounded intriguing.  And let’s face it, with the economy and real estate market being at an all time low in the states, we figured it couldn’t hurt.

(Kim had made a career of selling real estate since her early 20’s and Randy also sold real estate and had lived and worked in Central and South America a good portion of his adult career and had always yearned to return.)

Needless to say, we were on a plane a week later to check out the land of the unknown.  We truly had no idea what to expect (well Randy had an idea.)  In fact, Kim thought it was going to be similar to Juarez, where we had been many times to build houses for people in extreme poverty.  Our entire family had developed an immense passion for missions and outreach, we had been on outreach trips all over the world, and we were ready for a new adventure.

After we arrived, we immediately discovered it was nothing like Juarez.  It was green and lush and quite beautiful.  We spent a week exploring the country, looking at schools for the kids, searching for rental homes, visiting English speaking churches, and meeting many locals.  We both decided we loved everything about Costa Rica!

We instantly fell in love with the beauty of Costa Rica, the people, the lifestyle, the food, the perfect weather, and we definitely took comfort in the fact that Costa Rica does not have hurricanes!

After arriving back home in Denver, we decided we were going to “go for it” and make the move for a year.  We also decided we did not want to be one of those people that just talked about moving, we wanted to make it happen.  So we took a leap of faith, and booked one way tickets for 30 days from that date.

Four months into the journey, we decided to make Costa Rica our permanent home.

With our lifestyle blog, we hope to bring some insight into what daily life is really like in Costa Rica – both the good and the bad. However, as Randy always says “There are no bad experiences in life.” He says, “Think about it, the worse the experience, the better story you have! People with perfect and uneventful lives, have really boring stories.” Well we can definitely say we have some great stories!  : )

We hope you will laugh as hard as we have (after the fact) at some of the trials and tribulations we have faced. They have truly made us stronger and better people; we have developed patience and a true sense of what is really important in life.

So in the end, I guess life truly is perfect here… we just needed to realign our definition of “perfect!”

Welcome to this crazy journey we call life…
